VOTE NOW to include Health Indicators in Sustainable Development
World leaders will attend the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 20-22 June to negotiate the terms of Sustainable Development. Without the involvement of nurses and other health leaders, health will NOT become a focal measure of sustainability. Read more about the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development here: http://www.uncsd2012.org/rio20/index.html
Whether it is transport that reduces air pollution, building more stable, weather-resistant housing for the poor, providing access to safe and sanitary water, or ensuring that clean energy is accessible by all, putting health at the heart of sustainable development can help ensure that sustainable development goals benefit the entire global population, and particularly the poor.
You can help make health a priority of formal civil society inputs to Rio+20, by voting on a series of "health-focused" position papers in the Rio dialogues online discussion forum -- drafted on the basis of recent discussions about health in Rio +20 in a UN expert consultation and in civil society forums involving students and health NGOs. The top three recommendations related to each of the seven Rio+20 thematic areas will be conveyed directly to Heads of State gathering in the High-Level Segment of Rio +20. This second round of voting will determine which articles are relayed to and discussed by Heads of State and Rio + 20. Health is a prime focus in all of our recommendations. We still need your help to win in this second and final round.
